What We're Really Trading

Let’s talk about value.
Not the kind stamped on a price tag or stitched into a designer label. The kind we assign to things. To people. To our own lives.
Value is the currency underneath everything.
Whether we’re aware of it or not, it’s the invisible exchange rate running through nearly every interaction we have.
Nothing is free. Everything costs something. And what sets the cost is value.
A thousand-dollar bill is worth more than a penny. A Lamborghini is worth more than a Honda. Craftsmanship, rarity, quality…all of it varies, but the principle underneath stays the same.
Value determines worth.
The same is true for us.
Our relationships. Our careers. Our finances. The way strangers treat us in passing. All of it, more often than not, is a reflection of value…the value we believe we carry, and the value others perceive in us.
This isn’t about blame.
Not shaming ourselves for where we’ve landed. Not pointing fingers at the people who’ve mistreated us.
It’s simply recognizing something nature has always known.
✨✨✨
Take a wolf pack.
A healthy pack isn’t built on domination. It’s built on contribution.
…The experienced ones hunt and protect.
…Others tend the pups.
…Some scout ahead.
…Some stay back to guard the vulnerable.
…Even the aging wolves keep offering what they’ve learned.
Their worth was never about ego.
It was about what they gave to the survival of the whole.
Nature understood something we’ve largely forgotten: Value is found in purpose.
We’re no different. Every one of us walks in carrying something the world needs. Different gifts. Different strengths. Different ways of showing up.
The trouble starts in one of two places: We don’t know what our value is. Or…we stay somewhere - a job, a relationship, a version of our life - that slowly convinces us we have none.
That’s where resentment is born.
…Anger.
…Disappointment.
…Heartbreak.
…Exhaustion.
…Hopelessness.
Not because we lost our value. Because we stayed somewhere that kept diminishing it.
✨✨✨
Most of us don’t see this clearly, not at first. Awareness comes in layers.
It starts with a feeling - an emotional reaction that causes us to feel a certain way physically or emotionally. Sometimes it’s simply our body’s way of telling us that something isn’t right.
Then the mind starts searching for answers, reasons, excuses - often outside of ourselves, for why people treat us a certain way, or why we are where we are.
But those are only the surface.
The harder more uncomfortable truth lives underneath.
Picture pouring water onto sand. At first it vanishes. Wait long enough, though, and what was buried starts to rise.
We work the same way.
If we sit with the feeling instead of running from it, what’s underneath eventually surfaces. And even that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Go deeper…
Get curious instead of reactive.
Sit with it long enough and you’ll find the belief holding it all up.
That’s where truth lives. Not the truth of who we are - the truths we came to believe about ourselves over time:
“I don’t matter.”
“I’m too much.”
“I’m not enough.”
“I have to earn love.”
“I have to prove my worth.”
Those beliefs are quietly setting the price we place on ourselves.
And once we see the price tags we are wearing, everything changes.
Because awareness creates choice.
We can stay in the environment that keeps reinforcing the belief.
Or we can leave.
Period.
✨✨✨
We set the value of our own currency.
People can only exchange with us at the rate we consistently hold ourselves at.
That doesn’t mean everyone will see our worth. Some won’t. Some can’t. Some benefit far too much from us believing we’re worth less.
But we can’t keep blaming others for accepting the price we unknowingly put on ourselves.
That’s the hard truth.
No blame.
No shame.
No game.
It simply is what it is.
And strangely enough, that’s where the power lives.
If we helped set the price, we can raise it.
Not by pretending. Not by inflating the ego. Not through performance or hollow affirmations repeated in a mirror.
Real value isn’t announced.
It’s embodied.
It quietly reshapes the way we speak.
…The boundaries we hold.
…The opportunities we say yes to.
…The relationships we nurture, and the ones we finally release.
…The way we care for ourselves - and the way we let others care for us.
Personal power isn’t found in convincing yourself of your worth.
It’s found in knowing it so completely that your life starts reflecting it back to you - without needing anyone’s permission or acknowledgment to do so.
To hold value for yourself is what allows you to become of real value to others.
✨✨✨
So maybe the question was never whether you have value.
You already do….
Maybe the real question is this:
What price tag have you placed on your own life?
And…if it no longer reflects who you actually are or how you want to be…_
What would it look like - and more importantly, what would it feel like - to raise it?
